We are an enthusiastic, life-long learning community that is committed to supporting students of local and international backgrounds.

High expectations of teachers as well as students ensure a profound high-quality of education. At the same time, we foster self-confidence, self-discipline and self-worth in every student and this enables them to reach their full potential in school and beyond.

Our unique learning environment is characterized by close student, teacher, and family relationships and we understand that communication is an important key to our strong sense of community that is based upon the values of mutual respect, sincere compassion, shared responsibility and continual self-reflection.

At the Accredited European School Tyrol / Innsbruck Elementary School, we follow the European curriculum.

The school has a strong focus on new forms of learning and teaching, such as informal education, co-operative and peer learning, cross-curricular teaching and project learning. Our students build a foundation in literacy, numeracy, cognitive and social skills and learn more about themselves, each other and the world through a broad curriculum.

The school’s program allows a team of English Native Speaker teachers and Austrian teachers to work in a team teaching environment. The co-teaching approach allows for differentiated learning, more one-on-one time with the students, peer learning through a hands-on style of teaching and enables a joint assessment of students’ progress.

History

We are located in the heart of Innsbruck and situated in a building of traditional childcare. The building was founded by Johann von Sieberer, who himself an orphan, decided at older age to dedicate his wealth to humanitarian and social foundations. From 1885 on, his donations helped build up not only a home for the elderly, but also the ”Von Sieber’sche Waisenhaus,” an orphanage for about 200 children, which today holds three schools and a kindergarten including Innsbruck Elementary.

During World War II, the building was host to a military hospital until it was renovated and transformed into a school during the 1950s. The local area around the school is quiet, providing plenty of connections for public transport.

Our roots as a school with a multicultural and international setting date back to 2007. On the initiative of the County of Tyrol and the City of Innsbruck, an English primary school in Innsbruck was established starting with only a single classroom. On basis of this vital and multicultural learning community, the IES developed and congruently established itself as an agile centre for learning in English over the past 15 years.

As of the academic year 2022/23 we are in the process of approval for the Accredited European School Tyrol and are thrilled to start this new adventure and spread our wings.
